After 7 years of Essentials for Mac, Intuit has finally released a major update for their Mac users – Welcome Quicken 2015 for Mac. But is this a welcomed upgrade or just too little, too late? Let’s take a look and see.
New features in Quicken 2015 for Mac
Just in time for OS X Yosemite, Quicken 2015 for Mac is completed redesigned. Not only is the interface built from the ground up, but you get a new app as well and some fancy new features to go along with it. Here are some of the key improvements in this release:
- New Mobile App – Now check all your balances, payments due, and track receipts (by snapping a photo) from your iPad, iPhone or Android device with the new Quicken App for Mac. The app automatically syncs your financial data between devices so no need to wait on imputing your financial data when you’re in front of the computer. It’s available for free at the iTunes Store.
- Export to TurboTax – If you use TurboTax to complete your personal tax returns, then you’ll like the new export feature. Quicken 2015 for Mac let’s you plan and manage your taxable investments. The software syncs to real-time stock quotes to keep your net worth up to date and tracks cost basis, realized/unrealized gains, and calculates any capital gains automatically for you.
- Global Account View – If you use mint.com, then you will know this feature pretty well. Quicken 2015 for Mac gives you a full 360 view of all your bank accounts, stock portfolios, retirements plans, savings accounts, retirement accounts, and credit card liabilities all in once place. Because it syncs automatically to over 14,500 financial institutions, you always know where you stand financially.
- Bills, bills, and bills – If you’re like me and somehow need to manage a paying a pile of bills every month, then you’ll find the bill reminders pretty helpful (especially on reoccurring payments like the cable or car payment bills). The software shows you the upcoming financial impact of those expenses and will help you avoid those pesky overdraft charges or bounced check fees.
- Expanded reporting capabilities – Quicken 2015 for Mac let’s you create an entire portfolio of custom reports. These include, account summaries, spending by category, net income, spending cloud, spending over a fixed amount of time, monthly budget charts, realized and unrealized gains reprots, and Tax Schedule reports (Schedule A, B, C, D).
And if your coming from Quicken Essentials for Mac, the older Quicken Mac 2007, or any Windows version of Quicken after 2010, then you’ll be able to automatically upload your existing data with just a few clicks.
Is there a free trial available?
No, Intuit does not offer free trials on any Quicken software, regardless if it’s for PC or Mac. However, in lieu of a free trial, all orders have an extended 60-day no-questions-asked return policy regardless of where you purchased the software from.
